A spike in the cost of asphalt and other road materials has prompted the Vincennes Board of Works to pair back the amount of street paving they planned to do this year.
City Engineer John Sprague explained that the unit prices for the road materials spiked since he originally submitted the city’s bid for a Community Crossings Matching Grant back in December.
The city was awarded $560,000 through the Community Crossings Matching Grant program along with a local match of 500-thousand dollars to pay for the road paving.
E & B paving was hired to perform the work. Sprague says the company is currently working on curbs and curb ramps. He says the contractor will return later this fall to begin street paving,
