Monroe City Hosting Town Convention Tonight

The first of three local Town Conventions is set to take place tonight in Monroe City.

Republicans who live inside the town limits will take to the polls to narrow down their list of candidates for the Town Board election later this Fall. They’ll be tasked with choosing between Matt Powell, Juan Fuller, Michael Johnson and Michael Luenebrink as the GOP candidates for the three town board positions. The top three vote-getters will join Democrat Bill Sampson on the ballot when the Municipal Elections roll around in November.

Tonight’s town convention takes place at the Blue Jeans Center from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. There will not be any early voting, no absentee voting, and no proxy voting.

According to Knox County Clerk David Shelton, all who show up to vote at the conventio must sign a document stating they are either currently a Republican, or that they intend to vote Republican in the November Election.

The town convention scheduled for tomorrow in Wheatland has been postponed due to an issue with the Steen Township Volunteer Fire Department. It has been moved to Tuesday, August 20th at the Wheatland Town Hall. The Edwardsport Convention has been moved to the Town Hall on Thursday.
